Lantern Walk to Light up the Night Nov. 5
On Sunday, November 5, Raritan Headwaters will continue its tradition of celebrating “Lanternenlaufen,” a historic European festival marking the end of the agricultural year and the beginning of the harvest, with two walks through the meadows of Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve.
“Nothing’s more fun than a parade of colorful lanterns on the first autumn night after the end of Daylight Savings Time,” said Cindy Ehrenclou, RHA’s executive director. “Festive music will play as we carry our lanterns through the meadows, and afterwards we’ll enjoy snacks around a bonfire.”
The event begins at 4 p.m., with the first walk – recommended for families with young children – leaving at 5 p.m. The second walk begins at 7 p.m. and is best for adults.
Admission price per person is $20 for Raritan Headwaters members, $25 for non-members, and $15 for children 12 and younger. The fee includes an illuminated paper lantern for each person, music, bonfire and refreshments. For those who do not wish to purchase a lantern, but would like to join in the festivities, a donation of $10 per person over the age of 12 is requested. Advance registration is required due to limited capacity. Learn more and register here.
