In early September, five cyclists representing Raritan Headwaters rode in the 2018 Gran Fondo NJ – a popular bicycle event through the scenic backroads of our watershed – to raise both funds and awareness.
Team RHA was made up of board members John Parker of Oldwick and Dallas Hetherington of Bernardsville, Al Sferra of Mendham, development director Jody Marcus of Morristown, and Jody’s daughter, Erica Troncoso of Baltimore.
It was the first time Raritan Headwaters had entered the Gran Fondo, and team members raised funds by requesting donations for each mile ridden. Their effort yielded nearly $6,500 to support our mission of protecting clean water in local rivers, streams and homes.
Even better, it paved the way for bigger things!
Shortly after the event, we received the exciting news that Raritan Headwaters has been chosen as an official beneficiary of the 2019 Gran Fondo, to be held Sept. 8, 2019 starting in Morristown. That means we will share in the proceeds raised by entry fees. Over the past five years, Gran Fondo NJ has raised about $750,000 for local charitable organizations.
Although the 2019 Gran Fondo is nearly a year away, we’re already starting to put together a team of 20 or more riders to pedal for Raritan Headwaters. If you love cycling the scenic back roads in Morris, Somerset and Hunterdon counties, please consider joining Team RHA!
