*2019 Open Paddle and Sojourn Dates Will Be Announced Soon!*

A sojourn is an impermanent stay reached by journey.

A quest.

Join Raritan Headwaters to float atop the waters of the South and North Branches of the Raritan River, and the Black River. We offer sojourn trips for more experienced paddlers, and open paddle programs for those looking for a more casual paddle, perfect for beginners!

The Raritan River is the longest river completely within New Jersey. It includes the state’s largest contiguous stretch of wildlife habitat, and runs through one of the most populated areas of the United States. Experience the unique beauty of this river by paddling it with us!

Open Paddle Programs

Spend an hour paddling on gentle waters – we provide you with a kayak, paddle, life vest and instruction! These free events are great for beginners ages 10 to 100!  Dates for 2019 will be announced soon.

Sojourn Programs

Paddle the upper reaches of the Raritan River from Clinton to the confluence of the North and South Branches in Bridgewater. This trip is broken up into several legs, which take place on separate weekends. Each paddle lasts approximately 5 hours, which includes stopping for lunch along the way (please bring lunch and water with you). Paddle time may always be shorter or longer depending on how fast the river is flowing that day.

Raritan Headwaters owns a fleet of kayaks available to borrow! Please contact Lauren at ltheis@raritanheadwaters.org to find out about availability for each date.
