Cedar Waxwing at Fairview Farm

Four of us had a great walk today.  We started this beautiful fall day at 34 degrees with a blue sky with lots of puffy white clouds.  Only Blue Jays, crows, and one Catbird.  When we walked out onto the pond dock three Wood Ducks lifted off.  A Red-shouldered Hawk was calling in the distance.  As we approached the wetland a Hermit Thrush popped up in a bush.  And then another and another.  Three Hermit Thrushes.  Lots of sparrows, White-throated, Swamp, Song and Field.  A Kestrel flew across the field and landed in a Cedar.  It was followed by a Merlin.  Yellow-rumped Warblers were abundant, diving into the Bayberry bushes.  Another Wood Duck flew over the field.  We heard Red-shouldered Hawk calling from the back side of the field, and then another from the cottage side.  Suddenly one lifted off from the far side followed by another.  It may have been the juvenile that we saw earlier in the summer.  So, three Red-shouldered Hawks.  We also had Purple Finches, Kinglets, lots of Waxwings and Robins, and surprisingly Cowbirds.  Great day!
